Introduction:
This lesson is designed to integrate the English, History, and Family/Consumer Science curricula into one multi-disciplinary project. It is the students’ job to act as a tour guide in the 1920s directing tourists or immigrants around Harlem, New York. The goal of this project is for students to learn about the Harlem Renaissance through the food, clothing, literature, and historical context of that era. The students will work in groups of four or five to create a brochure of their intended tour, including pictures and descriptions of the places they will go. Assessment of the brochure will be made based on the provided rubric.
